Lakes Laundry is now proudly owned by three local moms —

Maureen Helzer, Carol Carter, and Shannon Gipson —

who together have 12 kids and 6 grandkids.

They’ve lived the chaos of family life and endless laundry piles, so they understand exactly what their neighbors need most: a clean, reliable, and welcoming place to get it all done.

“We love this community and are honored to be a part of it,” said Maureen Helzer, Co-Owner & Marketing Director.

“As a women-owned business, we’re proud to bring new life to a space that helps busy families, small businesses, and local farms simplify their days. We’re here to serve Antioch, surrounding towns, and our Wisconsin neighbors, with the same care and pride we give our own homes.”

Carol keeps everything — and everyone — running smoothly at Lakes Laundry.

As a proud stepmom of three, she’s learned that laughter and organization go hand-in-hand. She brings that same mix of humor and care to every corner of the mat.

Her golden laundry rule? “Never wash towels with clothes — and definitely don’t let my husband do the laundry.” It’s part joke, part life philosophy: details matter.

Carol loves connecting with people, answering questions, and turning quick drop-offs into friendly chats. She’s the kind of person who remembers your name, your favorite coffee, and which washer you like best.

“I love meeting new people and building relationships,” she says. “Everyone who walks in the door has a story, and I get to be a small part of it.”

Outside of the mat, Carol loves gardening, baking, and going on new adventures with her husband Pete — or curling up with a cozy blanket and a bowl of homemade soup on a quiet evening.

Mom of five and grandma of six, Shannon has probably done more laundry than most people will in three lifetimes — and somehow still manages to smile about it.

Her secret weapon? Dawn Power Wash for stains and a good cup of dark roast for energy.

When the opportunity came to help run a laundromat, it felt like a dream come true...

“For as long as I can remember, owning a laundromat has been a dream of mine,” she says. “When I was little, I loved the hum of the dryer — it always made me feel safe and at home. That sound still brings me comfort.”

Now, Shannon gets to bring that same feeling to the families who walk through Lakes Laundry’s doors. She loves connecting with customers and seeing the relief on their faces when they pick up clean, fresh laundry that’s one less thing to worry about.

When she’s not at the mat, you’ll find Shannon cheering on her grandkids, visiting with family, or sipping espresso while watching a good football game.

Maureen is a mom of four, a professional photographer, and a lifelong multitasker who has done more laundry than most people will in a lifetime.

She remembers the chaos of having three little boys only a few years apart — endless laundry piles and sports uniforms everywhere.

“If I had known how much a laundromat could change a busy (overwhelmed) mom’s life back then, I would’ve used it in a heartbeat,” she says. “Drop it off and pick it up clean? Total game changer.”

When she’s not working on Lakes Laundry’s marketing, you’ll find her behind a camera or in her garden, where she grows everything from tomatoes to watermelons.

This year, her garden was so abundant she even started a small farm stand.

Maureen brings warmth, creativity, and community spirit to every corner of Lakes Laundry — helping transform the mat into a cozy, local hub that’s Clean. Fast. Friendly. Local.
